Bodily Function Apps You Didn't Know You Needed

by Megan Grant

Things are about to get really personal between us: Have you ever wanted to take your bodily functions more seriously? Well, good news: There are a multitude of apps that help you keep your bodily functions in check, and for a good reason. Menstruation, urine, and excrement (told you we were getting personal) can tell us so much about our bodies; they can even warn us of potentially serious problems that need to be immediately addressed.

For example, did you know that dark orange or brown urine may be a sign of liver problems or bile in your pee? Here's another fun fact (super fun, really): Black stool (fun, fun, fun!) could mean you are bleeding internally, but it's also common if you're taking a vitamin that has iron or medication that contains bismuth subsalicylate. See how important it is to understand your poo?

Keeping track of your cycle can also reveal important things, particularly if you are trying to get pregnant... or avoiding it completely (*raises hand wildly*). Making notes about Aunt Flo and other monthly happenings can also be helpful in picking out patterns and determining if experiences are regular or if they're possibly triggered by something else all together.

So, all that being said, how can you easily and discretely keep track of all these fascinating things? Here are a few ideas.

1. Pee & See Making Potty Time Fun

I know what you're thinking: Why isn't there an app that tracks my tinkles? There is! With a simple push of a button, Pee & See allows you to log your pees and will send you reminders to drink more water. You even get to compete for a spot at the top of the leaderboard, because everyone who's anyone likes a little friendly compeetition. (See what I did there?)

2. Clue: The Period And Ovulation Tracker

It's not the board game — it's menstrual-tastic. Use clue to log info about your periods, emotions, fluid, and sexual activity, and track your fertility easily and quickly. Here's the cool part: The more you log, the more accurate the app's reportings will be. So get loggin', people!

3. Poo Log

If there's one thing everyone loves, it's a good poop... app. Poo Log helps you log your bowel movements and will even graph them! It also includes a poo timer and poo trivia, because there's nothing we'd rather do while sitting on the can.

4. Period Tracker Lite Making Life More Simple

Period Tracker Lite is yet another top-notch app for monitoring your cycle. By pushing a button, you mark the start of your period, and PTL will log your dates and find the average for the past three months, predicting the start of your next cycle. Flowers on your homescreen indicate that you're fertile, which is just too cute for words.

5. Pee Tracker App, Stating The Obvious

This one needs little introduction, but the features it offers are rather plentiful. The Pee Index gives you an overall daily score for your urine and hydration levels. Pee Stats are provided daily, weekly, and monthly. Input urine color, amount, discomfort, intake, and activity for extra information and more accurate readings.
