Kerry Washington Slayed At The Met Gala

If there was ever a celebrity who could bring the glamour and elegance to the Metropolitan Museum Of Art, it would be Kerry Washington. And Kerry Washington at the 2016 Met Gala is proof of concept. It's not like anyone's surprised, though. We are talking about Olivia Pope, after all. Only on Apr. 30 did Washington hit the White House Correspondent's Dinner in a little black dress and top bun combo that would've made Audrey Hepburn proud.

A few rare doubters of her sartorial capabilities may have felt that Washington's style is a bit too traditional and classic for the gala's “Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology" theme. But not me: I knew Washington was always going to slay. The Scandal actor is arguably known for preserving a sense of sophistication to every look she wears, and for the May 2 event, things were no different. Even if the look was a little more alt than we're used to seeing from the actor.

Of course, sophistication is undoubtedly a must when you're in a room with Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour and a sea of Hollywood A-listers. But Met Gala themes are notoriously easy to mess up. For instance, the 2013 punk theme was met with a whole lot of confusion and almost's; few celebrities managing to channel the spirit of the musical genre and lifestyle. As for 2016's techy thematic elements, well, Washington nailed it.

From the see-through polka dot gloves to the purple locks to the high slit to the sequin detailing, Washington looks like an elegant and futuristic queen of the dark side. I mean this in the best possible of ways, of course. Like, if I were to visit a newly discovered galaxy in the 23rd century, this is precisely the sort of look I would go for. There is enough sartorial inspiration here to last a lifetime, guys.
