9 Non-Greasy Sunscreens You Need This Summer

by Emily McClure

Finding the perfect sunscreen for your face can be a challenge. From thick, greasy formulas to lingering white residue, there are plenty of ways that your traditional SPF may be losing its appeal. However, don't give up on wearing sunscreen just yet (seriously, it's important). Do what's best for your face by investing in a lightweight, non-greasy sunblock that will protect your skin without clogging your pores. It's a simple way to protect your skin without all of side effects you're hoping to avoid.

When it comes to choosing a facial sunscreen, Dr. Gary Goldfaden of Goldfaden M.D. recommended to me via email that you should to choose a sunblock that is specifically formulated for the face. "Look for call-outs like 'non-comedogenic' which means it won't clog pores, and ideally seek formulas that are also fragrance-, oil-, and paba-free, as all of these can cause facial skin irritation," he explains. Dr. Goldfaden also recommends staying away from aerosol sunblock as it may contain alcohol, which can dry out the face.

For everyday wear (not just at the beach), reach for a sunblock with a thinner consistency. These tend to blend into the skin more easily without leaving a greasy or slippery film behind. I find they're perfect for makeup wearers, since you don't have to worry about adding extra oil to the skin that could break down your foundation. Wondering what sunscreens you should be reaching for? Here are nine lightweight sunblocks that are perfect for everyday wear.
