Johnny Weir's Brooch Was Design By A Tech Company

by Kali Borovic

Even if you have zero interest in horses whatsoever, odds are you've probably caught some of the wild Kentucky Derby style this year. Proving that he's the king of derby fashion for yet another year, Johnny Weir wore a social media powered brooch for this year's event. It was without out a doubt one of the best accessories of the day, but he couldn't have done it without some tech help.

Between the big hats and pretty and proper fashions, this is one of the most fashionable days of the year. Weir decided to modernize the traditions of the Kentucky Derby a little bit, and, according to social media, his style paid off. His special accessory was a brooch that was powered by Twitter. The little horse on his shirt changed colors and galloped faster every time someone tweeted #WatchmeNeighNeigh.

Of course, he couldn't have done it all on his own. The techy little brooch was designed and engineered by Viget, a site that helps plan, design, build, and measure successful websites. The goal was to tie together social conversation, fan interaction, and Kentucky Derby coverage like never before. I think it's safe to say that they hit the nail on the head with this one.

How cool is that? Fashion meets function in the best way possible. The fun didn't stop there though. Weir decided to dress just like the horse on his social media brooch — extra long main included.

Now that's some serious style dedication. The bright pink hair is perfect for spring. Maybe he'll even started a Rapunzel-like hair trend with that crazy intense hat of his.

You never know what Weir will wear next, but it's cool to see that he's combining fashion and technology at the same time. Maybe one day we'll all be wearing crazy interactive accessories like this.
