15 Things Every Sk8r Girl Wore In The '00s

by Eliza Florendo

In the early 2000s, I thought I was Avril Lavigne, pining after that damned sk8er boi and his antics. Studded belts, striped shirts, and band tees were my literal aesthetic, because there were just certain things every sk8er girl wore in the ’00s. In retrospect, I’m definitely cringing at the outfits that I thought were so cool, but hey, we all went through an awkward phase. And if you didn’t — were you a real teenager? I can remember my awkward stage a little too well.

Sk8er girls – you here with me? When you weren’t busy essentially crashing your parents’ computer from downloading too much Avril on Limewire, you were probably wearing ties with t-shirts and Sharpie-ing your converse sneakers. Or, if you weren’t into Converses, you definitely had some DC sneakers paired with a shoelace belt. In. Several. Colors.

But here’s the ultimate test: Complete this lyric: “He was a boy, she was a girl….” I bet you can finish the entire song. It’s still catchy, admit it. You loved Jackass, idolized Bam Margera, and rounded out your CD collection with the likes of Fall Out Boy, The All American Rejects, and Panic! At The Disco. And while you were listening, you were definitely pretending you were at Warped Tour, collecting all the sick stickers, and maybe moshing. If you were extra sk8 or die, you probably had a chain wallet.

You feel me on this one yet? Ah, so much nostalgia from the angsty years. If you were a sk8er girl of the early 2000s, you will definitely relate to all these.
