She's normally pretty natural when it comes to makeup, so I did a complete double-take when I saw Kristen Stewart's red eyeshadow at Cannes. According to Perez Hilton, the actor rocked a much more dramatic makeup look than we're used to seeing from her, and whether or not it was her intent, it's actually evoking a beauty trend that's sweeping Asia. I have to say, she totally rocks it.
Stewart never really ventures too far outside her beauty comfort zone, but when in Cannes, right? The 26-year-old attended the Personal Shopper premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday night, and if you think the fact that her dress had wings on it is something to talk about, wait until you see her makeup. Stewart rocked some pretty edgy eye makeup, with bold red eyeshadow completely rimming her eyes. It's definitely fierce, and it looks great on her, but this isn't exactly a new phenomenon.
There's a beauty trend right now sweeping Korea and Japan and it's call "hangover beauty" (in Japan, it's known as byojaku face) and it uses the red shadow around the eyes to make you look "sick and vulnerable." I'm not necessarily saying this was Stewart's intention, but it does look pretty similar to the trend. First of all, check hers out:
It looks pretty bold from far away (also, that dress), but it's even better up close:
So fierce, right?
Love. The. Drama! I'm excited that she took a risk and did something totally unexpected. But you can see the correlation to the "hangover makeup" trend:
I'm not entirely sure if she (or her makeup artist) did take this as inspiration, but either way, she totally works it.
