Blake Lively Was Inspired By Ursula At Cannes

by Katharine McEntee

While Blake Lively always looks like a princess on the red carpet, she has been making headlines for her insanely good Cannes attire that quite literally makes her look like she's stepped out of a fairytale. From Esmeralda to Elsa, Blake Lively’s 2016 Cannes Film Festival outfits seemingly channeled Disney princesses in particular. However, there was one Disney character Lively enlisted as inspo who most of us weren't necessarily expecting: Ursula, Hello Giggles reported.

In an Instagram photo posted to her account on May 21, Lively can be seen holding a smartphone with a picture of Ursula next to her face. Her caption reads, “Everyone thinks I was inspired by the princesses. If they only knew…” Although Lively’s looks read more princess than villain, it’s fun to see a celeb making light of the red carpet.

Since day one of the Cannes Film Festival, Lively got us excited about her Disney-inspired red carpet-wear with an Instagram captioned, “#Cannes2016 fashion inspo day 1: Esmerelda. 😜.” From that moment on, she dazzled spectators with a ruby red jumpsuit that might have possibly been a nod to The Wizard Of Oz, a light blue ballgown with a headband up-do that was undoubtedly a Cinderella moment, and an-all out Elsa look with frosty diamonds and a train in tow.

While not every outfit seemed to be Disney-inspired, all of Lively’s ensembles were fairytale-esque. Here's all of the actor's dreamy attire from the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.

1. Gypsy Chic

Lively's inspiration for her first Cannes look is pretty obvious, and to help us out she even told us via Instagram that it was Esmeralda from The Hunchback Of Notre Dame. Her boho beautiful gown with rhinestone embellishments and cut-out shoulders was a masterful creation by Preen as well as an elegant update to Esmeralda's costume.

Upon first look, it seems as though Lively digressed from her Disney inspo, but an Instagram on her account proved otherwise.

I'm attributing her "there's no place like Cannes" caption as a reference to The Wizard Of Oz. Although she isn't wearing ruby red slippers, this red jumpsuit by Juan Carlos Obando looks just as magical.

2. Golden Girl

While I can't quite pinpoint who or what inspired this look, Likely looked absolutely stunning. From her blown-out locks to her form-fitting Versace gown, she was every bit a Hollywood bombshell.

3. Feathered Frock

Yet another look that might have been Disney villain-inspired. However, I think this Ferragamo dress reads a bit more Maleficent than Ursula, don't you?

Whatever her inspiration for this Giambattista Valli cape dress combo, it doesn't matter, because Lively was absolutely gorgeous.

5. Cinderella Moment

Everything form the headband up-do to the light blue-colored Vivienne Westwood ballgown screamed Cinderella.

To further solidify her Cinderella moment, Lively confirmed things with an up close detail shot on her Instagram.

6. Brilliantly Blue

A bright blue glittering gown with a train by Versace, who else could she be inspired by other than Elsa from Frozen?

In a details shot on her Instagram, Lively confirmed our Elsa inspiration suspicions with a lyric from the Frozen film.

Lively was obviously as pretty as a princess, and as badass as a villain.
