Kate Beckinsale Tells A Strange Story On 'Conan'

by S. Atkinson

Don't worry, guys. This isn't a story that's going to have you dialing your therapist. Although Kate Beckinsale's appearance on Conan seemed staged purely to get her daughter shouting in rage and embarrassment at the TV, the British actress didn't reveal anything too scandalous. I mean, yes, Beckinsale's daughter has seen Michael Sheen naked — aka Beckinsale's ex, and the father of said daughter, but it's nowhere near as bad as that sentence makes it sound. Or as Conan made it sound, when he said, “Apparently your daughter, as we know is now 17, likes to occasionally go on the internet and Google ‘Michael Sheen naked’." To which Beckinsale retorted "See, you've made that sound creepy." But O'Brien remained unrepentant, insisting “Yes, it’s creepy for a daughter to say, ‘I’m going to Google pictures of my father naked.’”

Finally, Beckinsdale repented and explained where this whole creepy-naked-father-photo thing came from (clue: not a creepy Freudian place). She explained that a photo exists of Lily Mo Beckinsale's father, Michael, that's a still from a play. It shows Sheen stood upright stark naked in a bathtub, and apparently: “My daughter and I are both from the school where we think a naked man is very funny in the right circumstances, not as a subtle surprise jumping out at you in a dark alley, but it’s a funny thing… sometimes in a low moment she’ll text me that picture or I’ll text it to her… If I sense that she’s feeling low, I think, ‘You know what, she could use Mike in the bath.’ It works very well most times.”

See? It's a light-hearted explanation for a pretty terrifying out-of-context quote. This seems like business as usual for the mother/daughter pair, who seem to enjoy one of the funniest familial relationships in showbiz. In May 2016, they staged a hilarious recreation of Lily's adorable baby picture for a split screen Throwback Thursday the world would never forget:

And maybe Lily could use some light relief: despite being just 17 years old, the star has already appeared in Underworld: Evolution, Click and Everybody's Fine. Clearly, given her beauty, acting chops and fondness for laughing at pictures of her naked dad, the apple hasn't fallen far from the tree.
