Oprah Is "With Her"

by Rosie Holden Vacanti Gilroy

There has been no shortage of endorsements for Hillary Clinton since she beat opponent Bernie Sanders in the Democratic delegate race, but on Wednesday, the presumptive presidential nominee received one of her biggest yet. Oprah just endorsed Clinton for president, and she believes HRC is sure to win. The self-made billionaire made the announcement while speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the premiere of the new TV drama Greenleaf, and she did not shy away from acknowledging the importance of Clinton's history-making bid for the presidency:

Regardless of your politics, it's a seminal moment for women. What this says is, there is no ceiling, that ceiling just went boom! It says anything is possible when you can be leader of the free world.

Wow. Winfrey — a glass ceiling breaker herself — could not have made her endorsement any more inspiring. She clearly believes it's time to have a woman in the White House, and understands the impact a Clinton presidency could have on American women. Furthermore, Winfrey doesn't doubt that it will happen — she seemed pretty certain that Clinton will defeat Donald Trump:

I really believe that is going to happen. It's about time that we make that decision.

YASS, Oprah, it really is about time.

Winfrey's endorsement of Clinton may not seem surprising. If anyone believes in supporting other women as they shatter ceilings, it's Oprah Winfrey. However, Winfrey was not always "with her." In fact, Winfrey endorsed Barack Obama for president in 2008. Yet, even when she endorsed now-President Obama in 2008, Oprah made it clear that she also respected Clinton. Winfrey said in 2007:

I have great respect for Hillary Clinton. I think I’ve said this before and it’s true: Because I am for Barack does not mean I am against Hillary or anybody else. I have not one negative thing to say about Hillary Clinton.

Considering all the negative media attention Clinton receives, the former secretary of state is sure to appreciate Winfrey's positivity and support right now, especially since she has to take on Donald Trump, who is known for his sexism.

Winfrey didn't stop with one endorsement. On Thursday morning, the former talk show host appeared on ABC's Good Morning America and threw her support behind Clinton again. Of course she had more super-inspiring words about the possibility of a Clinton presidency:

I'm with her. I have to say I'm with her. I would also say, that regardless of your politics, you cannot be a woman in the world and not see that this is a monumental time for women breaking the ceiling.

More exciting news: Winfrey also told Good Morning America that she would be willing to campaign for Clinton in the upcoming months. How cool would that be?

There are few women more well-known for their hard-won achievements than Winfrey and Clinton, and there is something undoubtedly inspiring about one supporting another. Here's to making more ceilings go "boom!"
