These Bittersweet Brexit Memes Will Make You Laugh

by Erin Corbett

On Friday morning U.K. time, the people of the United Kingdom cast their vote on the Brexit referendum. Predictions leading up to the vote showed that the vote to leave the European Union would be close — and after the vote, the UK has ultimately decided to leave with nearly 52 percent of the vote in favor of leaving, and 48.1 percent in favor of staying. Some of the Great Britain's reasons for their split from the EU include the economy, immigration, and the question of British identity. But as with any big global or domestic news, here are Brexit memes to make you laugh amid the chaos.

After Friday morning's results were in, British Prime Minister and leader of the "Remain" campaign, David Cameron, announced his resignation. In his address to the nation, he said, "I will do everything I can in future to help this great country succeed. I think the country requires fresh leadership. I do not think I can be the captain to take the country to its next destination."

Following the Brexit vote, the British pound crashed, and other countries have discussed voting for independence from the U.K. The First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon announced that "a second independence referendum is on the table," and Northern Ireland might be following suit.

So... here are those memes to help you along.

Not only will this vote have an important impact on the EU, as well as the people of the U.K., and how other countries decide to move forward, this vote will have an impact on a global scale.

It even has some wondering: Can Donald Trump now win the White House?
