Memes & Tributes To Alton Sterling

Just after midnight Tuesday, two officers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana shot Alton Sterling after responding to call about him supposedly threatening someone outside of a convenience store. When police arrived, there was reportedly an altercation, which ultimately ended with Sterling being shot to death. Bystander footage of the incident has since been widely circulated, and as a result, protests have erupted demanding justice for Sterling, his family, and victims of police brutality in general. The protests aren't limited to Baton Rouge — people from all over the country, including celebrities, activists, and normal citizens, have taken to Twitter to share their feelings.

On social media, many people are honoring Sterlin's life with hashtags like #AltonSterling #JusticeForAltonSterling #ICantBreathe #HandsUpDontShoot #BlackLivesMatter. While many people are sharing the video of Sterling's death, a different video has also gone viral which hopes to uplift and give hope to people across the country. In response to Sterling's death, people have shared Jesse Williams' speech at the 2016 BET awards, in which he asked when such shootings will stop, saying, "We know police somehow manage to de-escalate, disarm and not kill white people every day ..."

Others have taken to Twitter to express their grief, as well as their hopes for Sterling's family. Many show images of Sterling with his loved ones, as well as video of his family mourning the sudden death.
