Don't Let The Heat Kill Your Hairstyle

by Sienna Fantozzi

While winter rains can totally mess up your hair (hello, frizz), you aren't exactly immune to hair disasters in the summertime, either. Though rain isn't as much of an issue (unless you live somewhere really humid), the heat can definitely play a factor, but no worries, because there are a few ways you can make your hairstyle last longer in the heat. This is the summer your hair is going to be on point.

If you like to go au natural, more power to you, but there is nothing worse than spending time styling your hair, only to go outside, get insanely hot, start sweating, and totally ruin what you just spent time doing. Humidity can frizz your hair, dry heat can cause your hair to fall flat, and sweat? Yeah, you know what sweat does. It's a gross mess back there under all that hair sometimes.

While you can't totally heat-proof your hair, there are definitely some hacks to try to make your hairstyle last longer. If you're going to put the time and the energy into doing it, then you definitely want to get the most out of your style as you can.

1. Use An Anti-Humidity Serum

Humidity can be worse than rain when it comes to frizzing your hair, so if you want it to behave, try using an anti-humidity serum or cream before styling.

2. Try A Moisturizing Hair Mask

Dry heat is terrible for hair. As you can imagine, it will dry it out and dehydrate it, which could make it more difficult to style. To counteract those effects, use a moisturizing mask regularly.

3. Unplug The Flatiron

Forcing your hair to stay straight if it isn't naturally doesn't always work, so instead, embrace your natural texture. It will be more likely to cooperate.

4. Grab The Hairspray

If you tend to avoid hairspray because it can weigh your hair down and make it feel crunchy, I feel ya, but it may be unavoidable in the summer. Instead, choose a soft-hold spray so you get some grip without your hair feeling gunky.

5. Choose Coiled Styles

If it's humid outside, you need to protect your hair from all that added moisture. Coiled styles, like braids and buns, do the best job at that, so if you want your style to last, choose one that is more moisture-resistant.

6. Don't Touch It

The more you touch and play with your hair, the more chance for it to frizz, so when it's really hot out, just leave it alone and try not to mess around with it.
