Kesha Offers More Support To Orlando Victims

by Ashani Jodha

It's been over a month since the heartbreaking shooting at Orlando's Pulse nightclub stole the lives of 49 people, left another 53 injured, and left the world in shock. In the days since the attack, many influential stars have flocked to help those affected by the tragedy — and now, one more singer is doing her part to support and encourage peace. According to Entertainment Weekly, Kesha has offered to donate a portion of her earnings from her upcoming Harrah’s Atlantic City Resort concert to the Pulse Tragedy Community Fund, a GoFundMe charity organization that sends aid to the victims of the attack.

“We have come a long way with the equal rights movement but we have so much more work to do,” the 28-year-old singer said of her decision. “I’ll never stop fighting for people who just want to be able to express themselves freely for who they are.”

In responding to the unthinkable tragedy, Kesha made it her utmost mission to promote love and continue to be a full-time supporter of the LGBT community. The singer even demanded change from Congress in an advocacy petition beside a bevy of musicians, CEOs, and celebrities who all voiced their outrage, and their desire to put an end to gun violence.

Taking to her Instagram in the wake of the shooting on June 12, the singer wrote, "sometimes things leave you at a loss for words. my heart is with the families and the loved ones of these victims. this is so sad. I don't understand why these shootings are happening. I'm just so sorry, [sic]" alongside a photo of a news headline.

This generous and selfless act is further proof that the singer will continue to use her platform to rally behind love and devote her career to acceptance above all else. Back in March, those exact sentiments were echoed when Kesha received the HRC Visibility award for her tireless contributions towards LGBT equality:

“I’ve met many members of the LGBT community and some very, very close friends who have come close to taking their own lives because of the abuse they’ve had to deal with, and that is heartbreaking,” she said. “I don’t want to live in a world where we treat each other like that. That’s why my message has always been about being yourself, and we really have to love each other and support each other.”

“Fame is strange and unnatural, and I’m grateful for it mainly because this put me in the position where I can actually do something positive for the world, and that is really the best part of it,” Kesha continued. “I love writing songs and I love making music, but this is the most rewarding part of the entire process.”
