Olivia Wilde And The DNC

by Morgan Brinlee

The Republican National Convention is officially over. Thank God. But as much as we may be hoping for a respite from the circus that has become American politics, we're in for at least another full week of political dog and pony shows as Democrats gear up to make their own presidential nominee official in Philadelphia on Monday. There's been a lot of chatter about which famous faces we can expect to see inside the Comcast Spectacor's Wells Fargo Center but will Olivia Wilde be at the Democratic National Convention to support Hillary Clinton? While the Vinyl actress has been a vocal Clinton supporter this election, she may have reason to sit this convention out.

Clinton's nominating convention has attracted some major star power. From buzz-worthy speakers to top-of-the-chart performers to big-name supporters, the guest list reads like a who's who of the film, sports, and political industries. Actresses Elizabeth Banks, Lena Dunham, America Ferrera, Eva Longoria, Debra Messing, and Chloe Grace Moretz will rally behind Clinton, along with director Lee Daniels, talk show host Star Jones, NBA stars Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jarron and Jason Collins, and musicians Snoop Dogg, Demi Lovato, and Katy Perry to either attend, speak at, or perform in some convention-related capacity. It's not a surprise that celebrities find themselves just as invested in politics as the rest of us. As Us Weekly would say, "Stars — they're just like us!"

Yet Wilde's name is surprisingly not among the list of celebrities reportedly packing their bags for Pennsylvania, the City of Brotherly Love. In 2012, Wilde rubbed elbows with Secretary of State John Kerry at the 2012 Democratic National Convention after campaigning for President Barack Obama in 2008 and again during his re-election campaign. She's continued to take an active stance on politics with the 2016 election, stumping for Clinton both in person and on social media.

"The RNC shit-show only makes it even more painfully clear why we need to rally together, recognize our common goal of NOT rolling back the country to the dark ages, and get busy electing @hillaryclinton in November," Wilde said in an Instagram caption posted Thursday alongside a snap of her wearing an HRC tee.

So why isn't Wilde confirmed as a DNC attendee or speaker? If anyone has a good reason for sitting this political convention out, it's Wilde. The Vinyl actress is about six months pregnant with her second child with Jason Sudeikis — their son, Otis Alexander, is 2. Now, I don't see anything wrong with pregnant women attending political conventions, (in fact, I hope they do as they have a lot at stake when it comes to politics), but I can see how even the most politically active pregnant mother of a toddler may have her hands full.

Still, while Wilde hasn't confirmed she'll be at the Democratic National Convention, she hasn't exactly confirmed her absence either. Perhaps the actress will pop up among the throngs of Democrats set to take over Philadelphia next week.
