How to Feel Like a Futuristic ‘40s Glamourpuss

Whether for dressing at the vanity or secured in your purse for powder room touch-ups at a party, lipstick is a game-changer for a woman’s look and attitude. That’s the fun of makeup for me; it just gives a hint of changed energy with which to face the world.

Because of the power packed into a little tube, I’m always on the lookout for the latest, greatest innovations in lip color. YSL Beauty’s Vernis à Lèvres was a revolutionary with a lipstick/gloss/stain hybrid that offers all-day, non-drying wear. Armani’s Lip Maestro is another stay-all-day, super-pigmented lip savior.

Now Lipstick Queen (maker of my favorite sheer red that is as easy to apply as Chapstick) will launch a new set of tubes that recall the glamorous ‘40s era of style with a modern-cum-futuristic formulaic approach. After extensive experimentation (read: 20 years of lab work) with a chemist, Lipstick Queen founder Poppy King‘s due diligence has paid off in the form of high pigment color with a lip balm-like weight, thanks to high-performance silicone and the addition of Vitamin E and apricot oil.

The new collection, titled Velvet Rope for the texture it leaves on the lip, comes in five colors including nude, various pinks, a dark plum, and super red. All have a nifty addition: Peppermint oil, which gives a minty kick that feels and smells fresh.

The gold encased set comes out in September, just in time for the heavier-handed fall makeup routine. Calendar marked, in lipstick of course.
