Gisele Bundchen is one of Brazil's most recognizable icons, not to mention one of the top supermodels of all time. I, for one, have definitely missed her on runways since her official retirement from modeling. So it was more than great to watch her do her thing at the Olympic opening ceremony as she killed it in the shiniest of dresses. It was so stunning, it got me wondering who designed Gisele Bundchen's Rio Olympics ceremony dress?
I mean, really. Who created this stunner of a gown that looks like liquid gold? Well, according to Jorge Grimberg on Vogue, the dress is by Brazilian designer Alexandre Herchcovitch. It features a long train, is pierced at the front, and has pleats at the waist, according to Herchcovitch in an interview with Grimberg. All of which look positively smashing on Bundchen (of course).
To create the slinky pouring look, Herchcovitch made the dress out of mesh, and covered it with bright golden sequins that are double-sided and embroidered horizontally. The long train certainly helps the effect, as do the long sleeves and mega high thigh slit. And fun fact: it took the designer four months to create the dress (not surprising for something this detailed and pretty).
If I could get my paws on it, I'd wear it everywhere. But of course, Gisele wears it best. And no better place than in her home country of Brazil. I mean, check this thing out.
