Here's Who Steven Avery Hopes Will Play Him

by Erin Corbett

Last December, when Making a Murderer was released on Netflix, the docuseries had us all curiously watching and questioning the criminal justice system. The series took us behind the scenes and gave us all a glimpse of the system's inner workings when it isn't working with an individual, but against them. Months have passed since the series' release, prompting developments in the cases of the series' subjects. Now, Making a Murderer's Steven Avery hopes Brad Pitt will play him in an eventual movie based on a memoir he plans to write about his life and his time in prison.

The series followed the case of Manitowoc County's Avery and Brendan Dassey as they were investigated for and charged with the murder of Teresa Halbach, a young photographer who was killed in 2005. There has been a lot of speculation over whether the subjects were guilty of the crime, specifically because the defense raised enough reasonable doubt.

Dassey's conviction was overturned on Aug. 12 after a judge ruled that his constitutional rights had been violated during the 2006 investigation. And since Avery might be facing a similar fate as his lawyer Kathleen Zellner has suggested some developments in his case, Avery has some big plans moving forward.

If he is released, Avery hopes that his story will become a movie and he has his sights set on one big Hollywood celeb to play him. On who would be best suited for the role of Avery, the 54-year-old told In Touch, "Maybe Brad." But what exactly would Pitt look like playing Avery on the big screen?

I mean, OK, yeah I see it. A few years back, Pitt definitely had a serious beard going on, so I can see some kind of resemblance.

The above comparison, though, is even better than the first. Check out the hair and the beard. With this look, I really think that Pitt could play a compelling Avery.

At least, there's definitely a shared look that they have with the facial hair. However, this would likely be the look for a younger Avery.

What about the above look? There's some room to work with this. The short-haired, bearded look on Pitt could easily match up to this Avery look.

According to In Touch, Avery isn't sure whether or not he's seen Pitt in anything, due to limited TV access in prison, noting, "We don’t get too many stations, but we’ve got the news."

Honestly, I wouldn't have pegged Pitt as the best person to play Avery right away, but after seeing their side-by-side photos, I can see how he could fit the role.

Stay tuned for more updates that could be coming to Avery's case in the coming months. Avery's current lawyer, Zellner, is building an important case based on new and old evidence that could even point to new suspect altogether. She told the New York Times, "There is evidence that already exists in the case that points to a different location and a different suspect. We've got a combination of forensic evidence and a tip from somebody that we've interviewed multiple times that we think is credible."
