15 Times Michelle Obama Was All The #LifeGoals

Ever since she and President Obama hit the campaign trail nearly a decade ago, I’ve known that First Lady Michelle Obama has an impressive intellect, beautiful style, a winning demeanor, and a truly admirable dedication to health. But after watching Michelle Obama’s passionate speech Thursday decrying Trump’s sexist language from his 2005 conversation with Access Hollywood host, Billy Bush, for what it was — a presidential “candidate actually bragging about sexually assaulting women” — I have an entirely new respect for our first lady. In fact, after researching her time in the White House, I’ve come to the conclusion that our FLOTUS is all the #LifeGoals.

In addition to being one of just three first ladies to have earned a Master’s degree (from Harvard Law, by the way), Michelle Obama helps write her own speeches. I mean, she was even Barack Obama's supervisor when they first met — that’s right, when she was just a 25-year-old associate at Sidley and Austin law firm in Chicago, she was assigned to mentor her future husband, President Obama. (Talk about a workplace romance for the ages.)

Here are just a few of the many, many occasions that prove Michelle Obama might be the most badass FLOTUS ever.

1. Every Time She Stole The Show At The DNC

It would require the time and space of multiple articles to really demonstrate just how much the first lady consistently slays in the realm of public speaking. For the purposes of this piece, though, let's just focus on that time she told everyone at the 2008 Democratic National Convention that she and President Obama "want our children — and all children in this nation — to know that the only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work hard for them."

And then there was also that other time, when she not-so-subtly slammed Trump's campaign slogan at the 2016 DNC with these words: "don't let anyone ever tell you that this country isn't great, that somehow we need to make it great again. Because this right now is the greatest country on earth!" She stole the show — over and over again.

2. That Time She Sang "Get UR Freak On" During "Carpool Karaoke"

Watching the iconic rapper and the first lady drive around the White House grounds singing "Get Ur Freak On" last summer really couldn't have been more epic.

3. When She Barely Responded To Melania Trump Plagiarizing Part Of Her Speech

Speaking of Michelle Obama's 2016 DNC speech, how classy was her response — or should I say, lack thereof — to Melania Trump's copycat version? Despite the fact that virtually every American journalist was waiting with baited breath for the first lady to react to Melania Trump's alleged plagiarism, Obama chose to literally live out the motto "when they go low, we go high." Rather than attacking Melania Trump, the only thing she had to say about the whole incident was this: "Yeah, that was tough."

4. All The Times She Teamed Up With The Muppets And Sesame Street

I don't know about you, but I'm a huge Muppets fan — so the fact that our first lady has teamed up with the Muppets and Sesame Street to promote awesome things like healthy eating and education for girls is the epitome of #LifeGoals for me. I mean, she even got to read The Night Before Christmas with Miss Piggy once!

5. That Time She Took Sasha To Spain

Although The New York Daily News called Michelle Obama a "modern-day Marie Antoinette" for taking her daughter Sasha on a mother-daughter trip to Spain back in 2010, I feel like she deserves praise and admiration for it. Speaking as someone who has been everywhere from Nassau to New York City with her own mom, I have nothing but respect for moms who encourage their daughters to travel — especially considering the fact that so many people still discourage women from traveling alone.

6. That Time She Videobombed LeBron James

Whether you follow the NBA or not, I think we can all agree that videobombing the Miami Heat (with the help of LeBron Friggin' James, no less) is an experience most of us would be thrilled to have. What's perhaps even more badass about this whole thing, though, is the fact that this particular shenanigan was all part of our first lady's tireless efforts to inspire American kids to get active.

7. When She Tweeted This Kickass Workout Video

The first lady's dedication to fitness is inspiring, and her Let's Move! fitness campaign is equally so. Seriously, there's really no other word for it. Just watching this video makes me want to get back in the gym, STAT.

8. Everything About Her Friendship With Beyoncé

OK, so I don't know how much free time these two have to just go get coffee or whatever — but the mutual respect they have for each other is downright motivational. Beyoncé once praised our FLOTUS in Vanity Fair, saying: "Every time I see her, she inspires me, she empowers me, she encourages me to live a healthy lifestyle. ... I'm proud to have my daughter grow up in a world where she has people like you to look up to." In a world where women are so often pitted against each other, seeing these two powerful ladies support one another is #lifegoals, #friendshipgoals, and basically all things feminist, in my opinion.

9. When She Gave This Excellent Dating Advice

When Obama spoke at Glamour's "The Power of an Educated Girl" event in Harlem, New York City last fall, she told young girls everywhere, "There is no boy, at this age, cute enough or interesting enough to stop you from getting an education." As if that wasn't enough of a figurative mic drop, she followed up with this: "If I worried about who liked me and who thought I was cute at your age, I wouldn't be married to the president of the United States today." Bam.

10. Literally Every Time She Gets Dressed

Even the jerks who don't speak kindly of our lovely first lady can't deny she has style. In fact, the same publication that criticized FLOTUS for taking her daughter to Spain so many years ago — the New York Daily News — recently published an admiring gallery post on Michelle Obama's "Style Through the Years."

11. When She Gave An Impassioned Speech About Trump's Dangerous Sexism

Just this Thursday, our FLOTUS gave a fervent speech detailing all the reasons why Trump's sexist language toward women, and a potential Trump presidency, is dangerous and damaging for everyone living in the United states. The entire speech should make all of us want to be better people — but as an aunt to nieces, this portion, in particular, stands out to me:

This has got to stop right now, because consider this: If all of this is painful to us as grown women, what do you think this is doing to our children? What messages are little girls hearing about who they should look like, how they should act? What lessons are they learning about their value as professionals, as human beings? About their dreams and aspirations?

12. That Time She Challenged Ellen To A Dance-Off

In my opinion, anyone who gets to hang out with Ellen DeGeneres is #lifegoals, because I've always thought Ellen is rad as hell. So when I saw where Michelle Obama challenged Ellen to a dance-off and killed it, I couldn't have been more jealous or proud. I mean, it takes skill, time, and a lot of guts to dance in front of millions of viewers — and I have no doubt it's even harder for someone of the first lady's heavily-scrutinized social status. But she handled it the way she handles pretty much everything — with grace and determination.

13. When She Threw John Boehner Shade

I think we can all agree he deserved it for being an obstructionist to her husband's policies.

14. That Time She Broke The Internet With This Photo

It speaks for itself, really.

15. ... Then Explained The Adorable Story Behind It

Basically, she was telling him to calm down and let them take the damn picture. Who runs the world? We're guessing it's Mobama.
