Why Your Co-Workers Are Crucial To Your Health

by Michelle Regalado

Everyone has stressful weeks at work, whether it's due to a difficult boss, a big demanding project, or just the daily pressure to do well. But there's one easy way to alleviate some of the job anxiety. As a new study recently confirmed, spending time with your friendly co-workers can help employees feel happier and less burned out at the office.

According to the research published in Personality and Social Psychology Review, becoming friends with your co-workers is more important than you think. Why? Well, for one thing, making more pals never hurt anyone. But even more importantly, cultivating strong relationships at work is actually beneficial to your health.

Think about it: you're spending at least 40 hours a week at work, so you want to make sure to establish a pleasant and productive environment. Surrounding yourself with people you like at work can do just that — which, in turn, makes you an overall happier and more constructive employee. On the other hand, working in a hostile environment will only make you feel stressed and miserable, making it that much harder to get anything done.

It's important to keep all of this in mind while you're looking for a job. To ensure you'll feel satisfied with your workplace, try and find a company with supportive team members and the type of environment you can see yourself excelling in. It'll make your workload that much easier to handle. Plus, you'll have way more fun at the office happy hour!
