Our lady Cameron Diaz, she of the favorite-movies-forever list including The Sweetest Thing and My Best Friend’s Wedding, is taking her first foray into fashion in a major way.

WWD reports that on top of the undisclosed stake she holds at the parent company to contemporary accessories and shoe brand Pour La Victoire, Diaz will now assume the role of artistic director of the brand — meaning she’ll have a say in the designs, marketing, and advertising strategy.

Celebrities as creative directors of fashion brands... who else does this call to mind? Ah yes, the sisters Olsen at The Row (whom I adore), Victoria Beckham in charge of her own design house (again, adore), and, oh yeah, the ill-chosen Lindsay Lohan who had a go at artistic director of the house Ungaro back in 2009. Words you might use to describe that partnership: Disastrous, embarrassing, career-ruining, etc.

The best part of the WWD story is how the interviewer deigned to ask Diaz to compare her new role to La Lohan’s Ungaro stint. How I wish I had seen Diaz’s face at that question! To quote a one Miss Stephanie Tanner, “how rude!”

Diaz admits she has “a lot… to learn about the business… I want to say that it’s going to be fun, but it’s deeper than that.”

Our first look at Diaz’s hand in the brand will come from the ad campaign lensed by the notorious Terry Richardson and modeled by Jessica Hart. This will be followed by a fall/holiday campaign titled “Cameron’s Picks,” which won’t have been designed by the actress, but will give us a better taste of her style when that rolls out. Her first collection will be for the spring.

Diaz told WWD, “I live in heels 10 hours of the day. I know comfort in shoes... I want to have really great, functional shoes that are staples of the line.”

So what can we expect from Diaz? Hopefully great, affordable, and lasting pieces. Diaz emphasized that PLV shoes should be accessible, comfortable, and sensible, and in bags, the ever-essential pocket.
