Penélope Doesn't Want You to Know She Had a Baby

by Lindsay Mannering

July 22 was a popular day for newborn babies. Not only did Kate Middleton and Prince William's royal baby arrive, but so did Lady Antebellum singer Hillary Scott's baby girl, and Penélope Cruz gave birth, as well. The 39-year-old Spanish actress welcomed a daughter with husband Javier Bardem. It's their second child together; son Leonardo is 2-years-old.

Cruz delivered her little bundle of joy in a Madrid hospital, and as far as we can tell, there was no paparazzi in sight — every camera in Europe must have been poised outside the Lindo Wing of St. Mary's hospital in London. Not that Cruz is disappointed, though. The lack of coverage probably made her very happy.

In recent Vogue interview, she said: "I want my son — and my kids if I have more — to grow up in a way that is as anonymous as possible. The fact that his father and I have chosen to do the work that we do doesn't give anybody the right to invade our privacy."

If someone doesn't want any attention paid to their birth, having a baby the same day Duchess Catherine delivers the heir third in line to the English thrown is a brilliant move. A very brilliant move. Maybe too brilliant of a move?

So far, Cruz and Bardem have yet to announce the name of their new little girl, but seeing as the couple is notoriously private, we don't expect to hear the news any time soon. Plus, we're all waiting to hear what the new prince will be called, instead.

You win again, Cruz. You always do.
