Does This Mean We Have to Take Her Seriously Now?

by Mary Avant

I, like quite a few others out there, have absolutely zero problem admitting that I am no fan of the Kardashians. Sure, I follow a few of the sisters on Instagram and yes, I’ll click on a story here and there to see what the ladies are wearing — after all, I’m the girl who continues to be amazed every time I see Kim Kardashian wearing something that is not completely a) bonkers and b) ridiculously ill fitting. But that’s the extent of my participation in the family’s puzzling popularity. That means no rooting for Khloe to find a new man, absolutely no tuning into Keeping Up With the Kardashians , and (maybe I am the only one on this) no cooing over little North West.

But even I have to admit that things are looking up on the fashion front for at least one of the K sisters, and I’m not talking about Kim “Kanye Picks Out My Outfits” Kardashian. Less than a week after news broke that Kendall Jenner had landed a photo shoot for Vogue with super-famous photographer Patrick Demarchelier (I guess one Kardashian isn’t enough, huh, Anna?), the 18-year-model made her debut at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival — an event only the biggest of stars in the most glamorous of gowns attend.

And let’s just go ahead and say it: She looked really, really good. Wearing a black and white, ankle-length gown from Chanel’s Resort 2014 Collection, Jenner was able to hold her own on a red carpet filled with stars like Blake Lively, Zoe Saldana, and the ever-amazing Nicole Kidman. Pairing the double-strap, ruffled-and-graphic-bodice number with sleek locks, simple Stuart Weitzman heels, and dazzling Chopard ear cuffs, the young and blossoming model left me with nearly no doubt that she belonged on the esteemed red carpet.

The most shocking part of the whole ordeal? It’s that I’m actually not shocked that Jenner took Cannes by storm during her debut red carpet at the annual event. After all (hair aside), she looked admittedly great in a structured, satin Topshop gown last week at the 2014 Met Gala, and she’s been steadily building credibility as a model after walking in shows like Marc Jacobs and Giles during Fall 2014 Fashion Month.

The only thing left for Jenner to do to seal her fate as the most fashionable Kardashian around? Leave all of that madness behind ASAP and focus on her future as a sure-to-be-in-demand model.
