A Modeling Competition We Fully Support

by Erin Mayer

Internet competitions are a fact of life in the 21st century, but they don't often make us sit up and pay attention. That's not the case with ASOS #MakeMeACurveModel, an Instagram competition designed to find the newest model for ASOS' plus-size line, Curve.

#MakeMeACurveModel is a partnership with Models 1, the agency that represents Linda Evengelista (I told you this was legit). The winner receives a contract with Models 1, a photoshoot for ASOS Curve, and 500 pounds (approximately $840) in ASOS gift certificates. Pretty sweet deal, right? And with that kind of money, the new $4 shipping fee won't be a problem. According to the Daily Mail, ASOS has already received 2,000 entries for the competition in only 10 days.

If you're unfamiliar, ASOS Curve is a really awesome plus-size line featuring cute clothes for women sizes 14 to 24. Relatively mainstream retailers don't often carry a wide-range of plus-sized clothing, let alone nice plus-sized clothing, but ASOS does a wonderful job of acknowledging that women come in all shapes and sizes (for the record, ASOS also has a great range of bathing suits for women with large breasts). This competition extends the commitment to positively representing curvy women.

According to The Gloss, Model 1 noted that the plus-size division is one of their most in-demand:

There has never been a better time to be a curvy model. Demand for our curvy girls just keeps growing and it is not just the size 12, 14 and 16s that in are in demand, brands are looking for size 18 and 20 curves.

To enter the competition, simply a) be a gorgeous plus-size woman, b) post a selfie to ASOS with the hashtag #MakeMeACurveModel, c) wait and see. The results will be announced sometime in June. Good luck!
