Who Even Won Miss USA Last Year?

by Casey Rackham

America, behold your reigning Miss USA of 2013, Erin Brady. Now, if you're like me, then the last time you heard that name was a year ago when Brady was crowned the new Miss USA. And, well, since then, you've probably gone your separate ways with the Donald Trump-run organization. The thing is, although you and I might believe that the competition is just a fun show that happens once a year where we get to watch scarily gorgeous women strut on stage, it actually means something even more to the winner. Who knew?

Brady doesn't just accept her neck-cramp-inducing crown as confetti falls around her and then go back to her normal life — she actually has to do things. Why? Because it's a year long commitment. According to the official Miss USA site, she is "a spokesperson for breast and ovarian cancer education, prevention and awareness and [works] closely with organizations such as Gilda’s Club, Susan G. Komen and the National Ovarian Cancer Alliance, among others." (Plus, you can totally book her for events.) Okay, so that's pretty vague, but the good news is that we can figure out what she's actually been doing this past year thanks to all of her Instagram pics:

She's gone on a lot of interviews/media tours.

Media tour day #4 visiting @telemundo for Accesso Total. So much fun!!

She drove around in a Ferrari.

You know, casual.

She went to Stand Up 2 Cancer events.

Amazing artwork for a great cause.#standup2cancer #charlesfazzino #allstars

She spent time with children.

She met with Connecticut's governor.

She went on her homecoming.

Basically, it sounds like this is when the winner goes back to her home state after she's been crowned.

She threw the first pitch at a baseball game.

A successful first pitch at the Tiger's game last night. #missusa #homecoming

She helped support Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness month. Embrace your inner teal and help spread the message.#spreadtheword #september

She watched Sons of Anarchy.

Obviously. She needs some down time every now and then and this show is pretty incredible.

She went to premieres.

Specifically, she went to premieres with her roommate, Olivia Culpo (Miss Universe 2012).

She went to galas.

Friday night and off to the Pink Agenda 6th Annual Gala. Keep supporting the movement. #breastcancer#awareness #pinkperfect

She competed in the Miss Universe pageant.

She hoped to take home the crown for the USA for the second year in a row (Olivia Culpo won the year before). Unfortunately, she did not win.

She auctioned herself off for charity.

Raising money for @guildasclub. Just a fabulous dinner with me. :) #missusa

She went to Sundance.

First day in Utah and made tons of coverage. The governor, attorney general , and @stophungernow.@sundancefilmfestival here we come!!! #day2#sundance2014

She did approximately a bajillion photo shoots.

(That number has not been confirmed.)

She was the commencement speaker at Central Connecticut State University.

CCSU is her alma mater.

Oh, and most importantly, she took an obscene number of selfies.
