Her Tonys Gown is Intensely Feathery

by Arielle Dachille

Wanna find Maggie Gyllenhaal at the 2014 Tony Awards? Just follow the trail of eiderdown and rhinestones. The actress just arrived on the red carpet at Radio City Music Hall, and her dress is, well, festooned with feathers and jewels. Pure excess is the theme here. It's no surprise that Gyllenhaal's gown was designed by Dolce and Gabbana, those two crazy Italians who've never heard of either moderation (or income tax). Underneath all those feathers and jewels, the dress appears to be made of a pearlescent silk charmeuse and features an empire waist. A strapless neckline highlights Gyllenhaal's décolletage, free from any neck candy.

The choice to go sans-necklace was a shrewd one because with that many karats on her dress, jewels would've been beyond diamond overkill. This ensemble doesn't need any more diamonds to let you know that it belongs at an opulent event. The dress speaks for itself, and it screams "FANCY!!!" I almost want Iggy Azalea to provide the soundtrack to her dress. Gyllenhaal even remarked in her red carpet interview with New York 1 that her daughter thought her dress was in fact "too fancy." Maggie's answer was, basically, that you can never be too fancy for the red carpet. I applaud that attitude, and I applaud her bravado in choosing this crazy dress. Typically, I think of Gyllenhaal as a more reserved personality. This outfit, however, is anything but that. It's super-glam and really gorgeous.
