Remember That Iconic McGosling Kiss?

by Alanna Bennett

It's been 10 years since The Notebook hit theaters and became the movie all romance movies of the 2000s would be compared to. But let us not forget what came but a few months later: Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams' MTV Movie Awards kiss, a moment in pop culture history that would not only become iconic, but would sear the pair as a golden couple into the minds of a generation.

Let's set the scene: It was 2005. Jimmy Fallon was hosting, Tom Cruise was presented with the first-ever MTV Generation Award. Napoleon Dynamite won best movie, and Lindsay Lohan took home the award for Best Female Performance for Mean Girls. Jessica Simpson — still married to Nick Lachey but mere months away from announcing their separation — was one of the most heavily photographed on the red carpet. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams were already the "it" couple of the big screen, but they were about to make the leap into a real-world coupledom that would last until 2007, with a brief reprise in 2008 and rumors into the present day.

You pretty much get the rest of what you need to know from the video below: Paul Walker presents the award to them, and Maroon 5's "She Will Be Loved" provides the soundtrack as they take the stage. Then, the kiss. It's a really good kiss! The Twilight cast could never compete in their subsequent years of winning. Lohan was extremely titillated, as were Hilary and Haylie Duff. It's all very 2005, and very great.
