Chanel Is Doing Maternity Wear Now

by Samantha Matthews

The Fall 2014 haute couture Chanel runway show at Paris Fashion Week was full of surprises — including the fact that Karl Lagerfeld seems to be dressing just about everyone these days. People were immediately buzzing about Kendall Jenner's couture debut on the runway, but an even bigger shocker than Jenner's second appearance on a Chanel runway was the final look that ended the show in a big way: A wedding dress designed for a pregnant bride modeled by Ashleigh Good, who is, in fact, pregnant in real life. Good is Lagerfeld's muse, and before they walked the runway together hand-in-hand, she gave him a kiss on the cheek.

Could it be that Lagerfeld is going soft? Although that's something we can't be sure about, what is clear is that this wedding-gown look is far from traditional, and we couldn't be happier. I mean, sure, we've got wedding gowns made of book pages and LED lights, but it's not every day that you see haute couture maternity bridalwear now is it? The gown was exquisite in all its white glory, with a beautiful train and a gold broach with buttons going down the front which gave the look added doses of elegance and metallic without going too sparkly. The buttons also emphasized Good's baby bump without screaming, "Check out how pregnant I am."

Bonus shocker, in case this dress wasn't enough: Not a single heel was worn down the Chanel runway this time around. In fact, the Chanel models wore flip-flops and flat, over-the-knee boots, each adorned with pretty bows and ribbon.

This is, of course, implying that flip-flops are in for fall. But that still doesn't mean you can wear sandals to your internship.
