There's Something Weird About This Fashion Vlogger

by Jenny Jaffe

In the age of YouTube, make-up and fashion vloggers like Michelle Phan and Bethany Mota present seemingly unattainable standards of beauty and having-their-shit-together-ness. Is there any way to realistically live up to the kind of Pinterest-tastic images these so-called "gurus" put forth? Well, a new face to the world of beauty and fashion vlogging seems to think there is. Her name is Cassie, and she may or may not be the public teen face of the Illuminati's viral efforts to recruit the YouTube-viewing youth audience.

The video starts off pretty normal— a "get to know me" video where the somewhat airheaded Cassie offers up fun little tidbits about her life (she looooves sushi; she has two brothers and a sister; she's a Seahawks fan) — but it quickly takes a really, really dark turn.

What she seems to be asking is: Would you sell your soul to Satan for a chance at YouTube stardom?

In reality, Cassie is the creation of Jenny Jaffe, a member of the NYC-based comedy collective Forever Dog Productions. Jaffe also happens to be an entertainment blogger for Bustle. She's me. It feels weird to write in the third person.

Check it out below, and keep an eye out for more Cassie videos in the weeks to come!
