This Outfit Isn't Your Average Rachel McAdams Look

by Mary Avant

Call me a hopeless unromantic, but I’ve never been even mildly amused by your average sickeningly sweet, too-easy-to-predict-the-end, love-focused film. Unless we’re talking about The Notebook, of course — a film that, to this day, continues to make me not just cry, but downright sob multiple times throughout the brilliantly acted love story. And not only does my love for this movie have to do with a years-long obsession with Ryan Gosling (which — fear not — will continue even though Gosling is having a child with girlfriend Eva Mendes), but also with my admiration for the beautiful Rachel McAdams in both the acting and style departments.

In the case of the latter, McAdams has been stunning me since her Mean Girls days with romantic, ultra-feminine ensembles that have included everything from a beautifully embroidered, sheer Marchesa gown at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival to a flowing, watercolor Elie Saab Haute Couture number at the 2010 Oscars.

But on Tuesday evening, the star surprised just about everyone — not with the shocking confession that McAdams was intimidated by Lindsay Lohan on the Mean Girls set, but with the decidedly unromantic and definitely edgy Zuhair Murad Couture frock she wore on the red carpet at the A Most Wanted Man premiere in New York City.

Featuring a one-shouldered silhouette; voluminous side ruffles; and an abstract, graphic print in a range of blue, green, and red hues, the envelope-pushing look was much more in-your-face than anything we’ve seen the beautiful star don in recent memory. And though she opted for a hemline that was both longer and flouncier than what was seen on the runway earlier this year, the ensemble was no doubt more adventurous than McAdams’s go-to feminine style.

Even her hair and makeup were on the edgier side, with a slicked-back bun, fierce smokey eyes, and chic white nails that practically screamed fashionista.

If this is McAdams's way of proving she could care less about her ex-boyfriend and soon-to-be father Gosling, I wholeheartedly approve of the direction she's going with her insanely sexy new look.
