Andi's Dad Is Kind Of A Badass

by Paige Tutt

One of the best parts about any season of The Bachelorette is seeing the hometown dates, after all that's where we first met Andi Dorfman's dad Hy Dorfman. It's so incredibly interesting to meet the family of someone you've been (vicariously) dating (through a television show) because it really gives you a lot of insight and perspective about that person (in real life, outside of said television show). As viewers, we get to witness a family dinner, plenty of awkward interactions with family members, lots of stories, and plenty of love. Sometimes (if we're lucky), we'll get to see the Bachelor or Bachelorette start to make decisions about who is worthy enough to stay until the end. But sometimes, that decision is made by someone else. Someone like Hy.

Andi's Hometown Date during Juan Pablo's season gave us a little glimpse into the Georgia peach's life at home and into the mindset of the amazing Hy Lewis Dorfman. A protective force to be reckoned with, Hy grilled Juan Pablo in a matter of minutes. Asking everything from what his name was (Juan or Juan Pablo) to if JP was ready to commit to Andi. He's infamous for not only giving Juan Pablo a hard time, but refusing to give JP permission to marry Andi until she was the only one left. Sounds reasonable to me. Hy has now gone down in Bachelorette history as one of the coolest, most badass dads to ever grace our TV screens.

Here are a few of his greatest moments and sound-bytes:

When Marquel commented on how well Andi must have been raised

"Oh my God, that is a great suck up!"

That may have worked against you, Marquel.

When Hy surprises Andi on the first night, the look of surprise on Cody's face gets me every time.

During Andi's Hometown Date on Juan Pablo's Season

"I'm concerned if Andi has those feelings all of the sudden, this is love and whatever, I'm madly in love with this guy, suddenly he breaks her heart. If that happened, then he'd be the one in hiding."

Yeah, uh, I think he isn't messing around!

"A small piece of advice, your decision first has to start with you and that person. Finding someone who might make a great stepmother for your daughter... it doesn't matter if the connection's not there."

Yaaassss Hy! School Juan Pablo! Take him to school, teach him the lessons, and send him on home.

"I don't know him well enough to wish him any ill will, but with Andi it's not an issue of finding somebody. It's finding somebody good enough."

Clearly, Juan Pablo was just not good enough.

"You're a father, you have a four year old daughter. Almost five. Reverse roles just for a moment. If somebody came to you, who was dating three other people, and said to you 'if I do, will you,' okay. "

I never really thought of it that way. I'm sure Juan Pablo didn't either.

"As far as accepting you, my answer to you is I won't answer you because the person that is going to be good enough for my daughter is going to come to me and say 'there is no one else in the world.' When and if that time comes, we'll have this discussion."

Fair advice from a fair guy, but man, that had to hurt a little.

Can we just take a second to appreciate all of the great looks Hy gives? He is simply not having it most of the time!

IN RESPONSE TO JUAN PABLO SAYING HE JOINED THE BACHELOR TO LET PEOPLE KNOW WHO HE IS

Yeah I didn't think that was a great answer either...

IN RESPONSE TO JUAN PABLO ASKING IF HE ONE DAY PROPOSED TO ANDI, WOULD HE BE ACCEPTED INTO THE FAMILY

Hy doesn't look too happy.

AFTER HE TOLD JUAN PABLO HE WOULDN'T ANSWER HIS QUESTION ABOUT PROPOSING UNTIL HE KNEW ANDI WAS THE ONE

Hy may be stern, but he's fair. He's said it time and time again. He just wants what's best for Andi, and can you blame him?

Hy is just an all around funny guy. He's straight-laced. He doesn't mess around. Well, maybe sometimes. But even when he does, he's always got the same look on his face. I just can't help but laugh.

Here's to one of the best Bachelorette dads there is: Hy Dorfman!
