You Could Design Her Next Shawl

by Erin Mayer

Attention all white-winged doves — this is your moment. Stevie Nicks wants you to design her next shawl. The Fleetwood Mac frontwoman/all-around goddess has partnered with Talenthouse on a competition allowing fans to submit original shawl designs. The reward? Two-thousand dollars to aid in the production of the shawl, a professional photo of the singer wearing the garment, and the (priceless) knowledge that Stevie once twirled in an item you designed. Oh, and you'll get the shawl back.

"In 1968, a very handsome boy brought me a poncho from South America," Nicks said in a statement, reprinted by Rolling Stone. "I knew it was magic and that someday I would copy it in chiffon or leather or beaded material. I realized that wearing a poncho or a long shawl gave me something to work with up on the stage. Big movements, big twirls, you need to be seen from far away. So I made that a big part of my stage clothes. It became totally intertwined in my fashion style."

Now you have the opportunity to Go Your Own Way with your own meaningful contribution to Stevie Nicks shawl-wearing history. Want to enter? You have until September 22nd to submit your design. Short on ideas? Here are a few shawls culled from Etsy to help you brainstorm, accompanied by particularly titillating Stevie/Fleetwood Mac lyrics. I'm not going to say you'll definitely win if you combine leather and lace, but it can't hurt.
