You'll Never Guess Anna Wintour's Style Allowance

by Tyler Atwood

Remember when you were younger and your parents gave you an allowance each week for items like Sour Patch Kids and Jelly Bracelets? It appears that Anna Wintour also receives a fashion allowance, and it's exponentially larger than the one you likely collected as a child. For a speculated $200,000 annual stipend, Wintour shops for top designer wares to maintain her Devil Wears Prada mien — and that's not including her actual salary. According to The New York Times, Wintour's paycheck is a cool $2 million, and if she chose to save up that fashion allowance over five years, the editor would end up with another million in the bank.

So what designs could one purchase for $200,000 a year? I'm glad you asked. The editor adores chic essentials with a modern couture twist, from fur-lined trench coats to those peep toe Manolo Blahnik's she still favors, of course paired with a lightly embellished sheath dress or tweed skirt suit. The following is a Fall/Winter Fashion Week wardrobe to put any celebrity to shame, totaling just under one-third of Wintour's annual budget. After all, the style icon still needs money in the bank for spring and summer closet additions.

1. WARM WINTER COAT

This Donna Karan Belted Officer Coat fits Wintour's love of rich caramel tones, and her need for autumnal statement outwear.

2. NUDE POINTY TOE PUMPS

What is fashion week, and indeed, Anna Wintour's wardrobe, without a pair of nude pointy toe pumps? The editor loves Manolo Blahnik, so it only seems practical for the powerhouse to snap up three pairs just in case the first two don't last through Fashion Week. These Manolo Blahnik Snakeskin Tayler D'Orsay Pumps are both chic and utterly streamlined — perfect for wowing photographers and front row companions.

3. A FLORAL DRESS

This gorgeous floral Oscar de la Renta Cherry Blossom-Print Radzmir Dress is simply calling Anna Wintour's name.

4. A STATEMENT NECKLACE

Wintour adores a bejeweled statement necklace, so what better way to greet the new season than with Bulgari's Diva Necklace? Its less flamboyant wreath-designed counterpart is priced at $52,000, so this pink gold, peridot, amethyst, rubellite, and pavé diamond-studded beauty is sure to put Wintour right around her $67,000 fall budget.
