Filner Returns To Work, Everyone Still Creeped Out

by Jenny Hollander

On Monday morning, Bob Filner returned to the job.

It's a shame that said job is mayor of San Diego, where more than eight in ten residents are keen for Filner to resign. So far, sixteen women and counting have accused the mayor of less than a year of sexual harassment, including his ex-communications manager and, uh, a great-grandmother.

Filner has undergone two weeks of intensive therapy, though we're not quite sure that's enough when, according to your ex-fiancé, you're also pulling stunts like this:

As Bob's behavior continued to become more aggressive, standard decorum seemed to disappear. Bob recently began texting other women sexually explicit messages and setting up dates while in my presence, and within my line of vision.

Within her line of vision?!

Filner will be sad to learn that, in his rehabilitative absence, Hooters banned him from a bunch of their San Diego locations. His PR team will also be very surprised to learn that his therapy stint — which he finished one week earlier than planned — has done nothing to endear him to San Diego residents, who are rallying en masse to have him removed from the post.

A brand-new "recall election" will be held in a few months if the state's "Freedom From Filner" marchers manage to get 101,000 signatures together. A 10News/U-T San Diego poll found that three in four San Diego residents said they would sign it, and 81 percent of the state are hoping he'll be ousted from office.

It gets worse for Filner: 15 percent said they would help pay for a recall election, and one in five people said they'd volunteer for the effort.

We'll end with another quote from Filner's ex-fiancé, who dated him for more than three years:

I have witnessed a severe deterioration in Bob's ability to engage with anyone in a civil manner, myself included. During our trip to Paris, he screamed at me in public without provocation, among other inappropriate and disrespectful acts.

Somewhere in New York, Anthony Weiner is very thankful.
