Um, Please Don't Spend This Much on a Costume

by Erin Mayer

What does your Halloween costume budget look like this October? My guess would be that it's closer to $100 than $1 million, but one brand is asking you to shell out the big bucks for your costume party look. MorphSuit is selling a diamond-studded costume for $1.6 million. Yes, you read that correctly.

The MorphSuit is a skin-tight spandex one-piece suit created by the brand MorphCostumes that fits over the whole body, including the face and head. According to Fox 8 Cleveland, "the Million Dollar MorphSuit is encrusted head to toe with 70,000 diamonds" and is currently locked away in a vault in London. Quite a departure for the company that offers Power Rangers MorphSuits for $54.95.

Perhaps the strangest part of all this is the fact that the Million Dollar MorphSuit doesn't even appear to be a real costume. Like, what are you dressing up as in this thing? An engagement ring? And why would you want to wear head-to-toe diamonds? That has got to interfere with doing the Monster Mash at whatever Halloween party you're set to attend.

Gregor Lawson, co-founder of MorphCostumes, told Fox 8, "It’s probably not the most comfortable of our offerings, but if you roll the head part down, you can still be covered 90 percent in diamonds.” Ohhhkaaay, but no one has explained to me why someone would want to be covered 90 percent in diamonds.

I think I'll save my money and skip out on dressing like a high-maintenance cyborg this Halloween.
