Kate's Maternity Style Just Keeps Getting Better

by Erin Mayer

Until very recently I could not have cared less about what any members of the royal family were wearing. That all changed once Kate Middleton hired a new stylist and suddenly got very, very cool. Now I hang on her every wardrobe choice and so far I have not been disappointed. Recently, Middleton sported a pastel blue winter coat that put all neutral-colored toppers to shame. Never before has basic black seemed so passé.

The Duchess of Cambridge showcased her latest fashion triumph, a baby blue Matthew Williamson coat with a black collar and silver buttons, on a visit to the Valero Pembroke Oil Refinery in Wales. The handsome Duke might have been on her arm, but the double-breasted jacket was clearly her hottest accessory. She paired it with knee-high black boots and a simple clutch.

Pastel outerwear has been having something of a moment, but I've always been more partial to dusty pink over baby blue. Not anymore! Besides, my skin is almost translucently pale and so that shade of blue would just look tremendous on me. Since the Williamson version is a tad bit out of my price range, and destined to sell out in a hot second now that Middleton's been spotted wearing it, I'll just have to hunt for something similar.
