We Need Time to Heal from That Aaliyah Movie

by Rikki Byrd

Today everyone is healing from the scarring of last night's "Aaliyah: Princess of R&B" biopic that premiered on Lifetime. From an underdeveloped storyline to poor casting the film was such a painful thing to watch. Movie critics didn't even have to weigh in because those watching summed the movie up in 140 characters or less, all of them concluding that the film was an absolute flop.

Celebrities close to Aaliyah who were portrayed in the movie also shared their disappointment. Timbaland was, perhaps, the most entertaining and critical of the film, posting more than 24 memes to his Instagram account. Even Derek Lee, Aaliyah's stylist who was also portrayed, chimed in asking his followers if the film was over yet. And Twitter was so entertaining that you didn't even need to look up to see what you were missing, which turned out to be not much.

In order to take back the throne that the R&B princess dominated throughout the 90s, it's safe to say that a marathon of her top videos is much needed. While you're at it, take some time to muse over Aaliyah's much-remembered, trend-setting style. One day we will get past this pain and eventually come to remember the songstress as we always have.
