Everything We Know About Melissa's Clothing Line

by May Sofi

As one of Hollywood's most successful and sought-after actresses, what do you do after you've achieved ultimate fame and fortune? Come out with a clothing line of course. It seems celebrities and fashion brands just go hand in hand, with stars like Beyonce, Jessica Simpson and Rihanna all launching flourishing lines of their own. Next in line, the beloved and super hilarious Melissa McCarthy is creating a women's fashion line that will include plus sizes. McCarthy is known for her comedic roles in Bridesmaids and Mike & Molly, but I bet you didn't know that she initially attended The Fashion Institute of Technology to train as a designer before becoming actress. As a woman of many talents, how cool that she finally gets the chance to design her own line in such a major way now.

The collection, which is not yet named, will feature casual sportswear launching Fall 2015, with a contemporary offering as well as beauty and accessories launching sometime between 2016 and 2017. Prices will be in the moderate level ranging somewhere from $39-$118. Although no specific retailer has been chosen yet (the process is still in preliminary stages), the line will likely be available at department and specialty stores in the U.S., Canada and the U.K. as well as online.

“I’m doing all sizes. It’s a strange thing to stop at a certain size. Women don’t, so why should clothes?” McCarthy tells WWD about her plans to include a wide variety of sizes for all women, not just plus sizes. However, she specifically plans to modernize what's currently available to larger-size women. I commend her for venturing into fashion in what many would consider an unconventional and unexpected way. Can't wait to see the designs!
