Britney, Is That You?

by Erin Mayer

It's been a hard road for Ms. Britney Spears, but things are finally looking up! The '90s and early '00s might be a thing of the past, but that doesn't mean the pop star turned lingerie designer's glory years are behind her. In fact, Britney Spears looks better than ever on the January/February 2015 cover of Women's Health . So good, in fact, that I think "Hit Me (Baby One More Time)" era Britney would be jealous.

The singer is pictured on the front of the mag wearing an itty bitty black and peach bikini with a black sweater/sweatshirt hybrid. Okay, so the styling is a little wonky, but hey, this is a fitness magazine we're talking about. The real focal points are Britney's abs, which are off-the-charts. Like, how did she possibly give birth to two children? I have no idea, but I'm calling her up if I ever decide to have kids and will demand to know her secrets (Photoshop and an expensive trainer, probably).

"After I had Jayden, it was real easy for me to get back in shape," Spears told Women's Health. "But five years later, I started noticing changes in my body. My hips are a little bit wider because I’ve had kids. So it was crucial for me to be continuous with my exercise. Consistency is key." Now that is some practically meaningless advice, but I don't even care. Let's check out the cover, shall we?

It's Britney, bitch! I can forgive the stylists at Women's Health for this bizarre outfit, if only because the ensembles she wears inside the issue are totally glorious. I mean, there are cropped sweaters. There are faded bootcut jeans (with holes). There's Britney's sparkly belly button ring.

As Maggie Lange from The Cut points out, it's as if 1998 Britney time-traveled to 2014 for this photo shoot. I'm loving Britney 2.0 (or is it 3.0 at this point?) and I hope we get to see lots more of her.
