This 'Minions' Movie Clip Is Too Cute to Handle

by Alyse Whitney

If you're having a bad week, this clip of the Despicable Me Minions in Manhattan will cheer you right up. After a ridiculously adorable trailer for the spin-off movie — aptly titled Minions and out July 10 — and an equally amazing "Jingle Bells" Christmas caroling video that came out last month, I've been anxiously awaiting more footage of the tiny yellow creatures. Now we have a sneak peek at their origin story as they set foot in Manhattan in 1968, finding their signature blue overalls and inadvertently participating in a peaceful hippie picketing. ("Boo ya!" reads Bob's sign.)

There isn't a lot of information out about the plot of the film — which, by the way, is about a villainous couple, voiced by Jon Hamm and Sandra Bullock, trying to take over the world — but do we really need one? Even if it was just Minions babbling nonsense and being cute for two hours, that's enough for me. It will be even better in 3-D as they accidentally kill their evil masters (like Napoleon and Dracula) and take over Manhattan while eating copious amounts of bananas. If anything, we just have enough reaction GIFs to take over Tumblr forever, whether it's being hangry, hating on someone's outfit, or getting irrationally excited. Thank you, Minions.
