Maybe they should have. Ray J Wrote About...

It’s not very surprising that Brandy’s little brother wrote about his fling with his reality star girlfriend — she might be the only thing keeping him even a little bit relevant.

Kim Kardashian

It doesn’t take a genius to realize that Ray J’s recent rap is about his former sex tape partner Kim Kardashian. His tune “I Hit It First” features obvious (and pretty offensive) lyrics such as “She might move on to rappers and ballplayers/But we all know I hit it first” and the cringe-worthy “I had her head going north and her ass going south/But now baby chose to go West.”

Alanis Morissette Wrote About...

The Canadian singer wants her ex to know that she’s really happy for him. Except, not really.

Dave Coulier

Though there has been plenty of speculation about whether Morissette’s “You Oughta Know” is truly about Full House’s Uncle Joey, the timing really works out — sorry, Coulier. The most uncomfortable lyric for ’90s sitcom fans refers to Morissette asking her ex whether his new girlfriend will also go “down on him in a theater.” Thanks for ruining the Tanner family forever, Morissette.

Billy Joel Wrote About...

The piano man allegedly wrote this song about his model ex.

Christie Brinkley

Joel allegedly wrote “Uptown Girl” for his then-wife Christie Brinkley. Though the two divorced almost 20 years ago, they remain friend — and Joel even performed the number for her at a recent concert at Madison Square Garden.

Abigail Breslin Wrote About...

The Little Miss Sunshine singer’s first major venture into music began with an attack on this famous boy bander.

Michael Clifford (Maybe!)

Breslin’s song “You Suck” is a big f-you to one of her tatted-up exes. Rumor has it that the song is about her ex 5 Seconds Of Summer’s Michael Clifford, who fits the description of a guy with super bleached hair. (She hopes it “all falls off.”)

Taylor Swift Wrote About...

Let’s be honest — what kind of list would this be without at least one mention of T-Swift?

Mike Coppola/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

John Mayer

Mayer was personally offended by the 1989 songstress writing about their failed relationship in her song “Dear John.” So much so that he fired back.

John Mayer Wrote About...

Obviously, Mayer couldn’t let Swift have all the fun.

Taylor Swift

Mayer’s song “Paper Doll” has a line that states his ex is like “22 girls in one,” which fans picked up on as a reference to Swift, who had at the time just released her single “22.”

Katy Perry Wrote About...

When her marriage to this comedian ended, Perry channeled her emotions into this song.

Russell Brand

Perry’s song “By The Grace of God” is about her ex-husband. The pop star has stated that it is the only track on her album Prism about her divorce. Like Swift, Perry also wrote about Mayer on the album with the tune “Unconditionally.”

Miley Cyrus Wrote About...

The “We Can’t Stop” singer’s love ballad is allegedly about her broken engagement with this ex.

Liam Hemsworth

The Hunger Games actor is allegedly the subject of Cyrus’ sad tune “Wrecking Ball.” (Let’s just say that early 2014 was a tough time to be Hemsworth.)

Ed Sheeran Wrote About...

The “Thinking Out Loud” singer didn’t hold back when writing this song about what went down between him and this fellow artist.

Ellie Goulding

Sheeran outlined how Goulding messed with his heart on the track “Don’t” (allegedly by sleeping with a boy bander from One Direction — eep!) and apparently continued to diss her with the rap in his new song “Take It Back.”

Nick Jonas Wrote About...

The youngest Jonas Brother wrote a sweet love ballad for his ex — awkward, considering she was very much taken at the time.

Michael Buckner/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Miley Cyrus

According to Jonas himself, his song “Wedding Bells” is about his ex-girlfriend Cyrus’ engagement to Liam Hemsworth.

Ethan Miller/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Lindsey Buckingham

Buckingham penned this track about the end of his relationship with his bandmate.

Kevin Winter/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Stevie Nicks

Let’s be honest: Fleetwood Mac was totally incestuous. The tune “Go Your Own Way” was penned by Buckingham about the dissolution of his relationship with Nicks, which was a little awkward considering she was the one who would be singing the tune.

Justin Timberlake Wrote About...

The former NSYNC boy bander wrote this bitter tune about his cheating ex.

Ethan Miller/Getty Images News/Getty Images

Britney Spears

According to reports, the “Piece Of Me” singer is the subject of Timberlake’s tune “Cry Me a River,” which references a cheating ex whom the singer just cannot forgive.

Kanye West Wrote About...

Kim Kardashian’s hubby dissed his former love in this song.

Frazer Harrison/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Amber Rose

According to Rose herself, West’s song “Blame Game” is proof that Yeezus is still bitter about the end of their relationship.

Michael Stewart/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Big Sean Wrote About...

Big Sean’s track “IDFWU” is a musical slap in the face to his ex-fiancee.

Taylor Hill/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Naya Rivera

Big Sean’s tune is allegedly about Glee actress Naya Rivera. The lyrics state that the rapper “dogged a bullet” when the couple broke off their relationship. Ouch.

Jordin Sparks Wrote About...

The American Idol winner wrote this song after her breakup with this famous ex.

Paul Morigi/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Jason DeRulo

Sparks got very specific in her song “How ‘Bout Now,” even mentioning a neck injury the “Talk Dirty” singer received earlier that year. You know, just in case he didn’t know it was about him.

Christopher Polk/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Chris Martin Wrote About...

He may have been able to “consciously uncouple” from this actress, but he still has a place in his heart for her.

Justin Sullivan/Getty Images News/Getty Images

Gwyneth Paltrow

According to Martin, his song “Magic” is about the end of his relationship with the Iron Man actress.

Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Pink Wrote About...

Pink even included her ex in the music video for her revenge song about their relationship.

Frazer Harrison/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Carey Hart

Pink’s song “So What,” which calls out her ex Carey Hart for being a “tool” that she’s having way more fun without, may have been the best thing to happen to their relationship. After recording the song, Pink and husband Hart, whom she had been separated from at the time, decided to give their romance another shot. They are currently married.

Brian Dales

The Summer Set singer penned this track in honor of his ex, whom he is still friendly with.

Jason Kempin/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Chelsea Kane

The band’s song “Chelsea” isn’t a diss song at all — in fact, it’s super flattering towards the Baby Daddy actress. If only we all had such a good relationship with our exes.
