It's been a week of big news around the world. We've got a few book recommendations for headline makers when they have a chance to read up.
If you're not caught up on the weirdest feud since Hilary Duff and Lindsay Lohan fought over Aaron Carter, Sinead O'Connor wrote Miley Cyrus a vicious and unwarranted letter, pleading the young singer not to let herself be "pimped out" by the music industry. Such blatant slut-shaming and depersonalizing I haven't seen since Rush Limbaugh spoke to Sandra Fluke! Sinead, I get your maternal instinct, and I get that Cyrus immaturely mocked your struggle with mental illness, but you're criticizing her (and in a third letter, you demanded she "Be a proper woman") in a way that upholds and reveres The Purity Myth . Besides, isn't there so much else we can say about Cyrus?
Amid all this shutdown ballyhoo, non-profits and national parks eagerly await the return of Rhyme and Reason, like the princesses in The Phantom Tollbooth . Please, Milo Boehner, let's leave the Mountains of Ignorance and make a triumphant return to Wisdom.
Get reading, pals. Bon weekend!
