This Is The Plastic Surgeon From 'Kimmy Schmidt'

In a very short time, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt has proven itself to be a spectacular comedic treasure. The entire first season aired at midnight on Netflix on March 7, and was instantly streamed all across the country. The show has an extremely dark premise — the kidnapping and 15-year brainwashing of four women — and at the center, tells the story of a girl who has no clue what the world is currently like through a journey of hilarious missteps, including when Kimmy Schmidt visits a mysterious plastic surgeon. Of course the actor playing that plastic surgeon is a bit of a mystery, thanks to what is obviously more than a few rounds of surgery.

But then, you have to think about the fact that the first season is packed to the gills with '90s references, slapstick moments, and outstanding punchlines delivered by Carol Kane, who plays Kimmy and Titus' landlord. The music, the jokes, and the faces make you feel like you've died and gone to 30 Rock heaven. You know who plays Mrs. Vorhees' plastic surgeon in your heart, I'm sure of it. The cameo is as awesome as it is jarring, and it's the easiest thing to see in the world once you know who's the man behind the... can we call it a mask? And being that Fey is an SNL alum, it's no wonder that the surgeon just so happens to be fellow SNL alum and legendary comic Martin Short.

As the plastic surgeon Dr. Franff, Short's hair is Hulk Hogan-white, and his face is plump, smooth, and constantly looks to be on the verge of imploding. In one scene, he gets hit in the face so hard that it actually leaves a significant dent in the flesh that has been pushed, pulled, stretched, and pumped full of chemicals. And when Kimmy and Mrs. Voorhees have trouble understanding him when he speaks, he remedies this by squeezing his cheeks together in order to make his voice clear. He's a walking human nightmare.

The only reason he doesn't actually illicit terrifying dreams is because of the actor behind the botoxed mask. He has been a household name in comedy since his days on SNL in the '80s. Since then, he's been in everything from Mars Attacks!, Arrested Development, Frankenweenie, all the way to more recent projects like Inherent Vice and Mulaney.

The thing about Short is that he can do anything. He is out there and courageous and fully committed to every role he plays. So he can be funny using every part of himself for just one joke, or he could be serious and break your heart in a more emotional role.

If Dr. Spaceman in 30 Rock was any indication of how much Tina Fey enjoys holding onto terrifyingly bad medical professional characters, I think we'll see a lot more of Dr. Franff in the yet unannounced Season 2. And because Kimmy Schmidt is so very stellar, I'm hoping we'll see Dr. Franff in hopefully Season 3, 4, and 5 too!
