Need A Self-Confidence Boost? Try These Tricks!

by Michelle Regalado

Having a bad day? Try striking a superhero pose. No seriously — that is just one of a bunch of simple, science-based tricks that can actually help boost your self-confidence when you’re feeling down, according to a new infographic from Happify, a website and mobile app with activities meant to enhance emotional well-being.

While we all know that being confident goes a long way toward succeeding both personally and professionally, it’s sometimes easier said than done. Luckily, there are a few easy practices that can help get you there. As highlighted by Happify, these moves may seem minor, but can actually pay off in a big way.

So where do you start? Believe it or not, just moving around can have a big impact on the way you feel. Going for a walk or even taking your work outside can make you feel better about yourself, as can improving your posture. Also helpful? Wearing a “lucky” item (whether it be your favorite charm bracelet or a jersey), and listening to high-energy music.

Striking what Happify labels a “power pose” can also be effective. Certain physical stances like “the CEO” pose (sitting at a desk with your feet up and hands clasped behind your head) and the “Wonder Woman” pose (standing with your feet apart and your hands on your hips) are known to decrease the stress hormone of cortisol. That being said, it’s important to be mindful of when and where you do this. After all, the “Man Spread” pose might be comfortable, but it’s also kind of obnoxious when there are people desperately wishing for a seat on a crowded subway.
