The only safe bet with Fox's Empire is to expect the unexpected, because every episode has more twists and turns than you could ever imagine. Just last week, mogul Lucious Lyon (played by Terrence Howard) paid his son Hakeem's (Bryshere Gray) lover Camilla (Naomi Campbell) to leave the country and revealed to his family (at gunpoint) that he was probably the real father of Lola, the child previously thought to be fathered by his son Jamal (Jussie Smollett). And it sounds like Empire 's two-hour Season 1 finale on Wednesday night will be no different, ending the series' debut run on a high note — and another big secret from Lucious that could change it all.
TV Guide's description of the finale episodes "Die But One/Who Am I" states, "Lucious has a secret that's about to change everything as he and Jamal seem on their way to forming a music-centered relationship." Uh oh. It sounds like Jamal and Lucious were finally mending fences, despite Lucious' disapproval of Jamal publicly coming out as gay a few weeks ago, until now. But what could be a bigger secret than Lucious sleeping with Jamal's ex-wife Olivia (Raven-Symone) and fathering Lola? Knowing Empire and Lucious, there are many possibilities.
The Lyons always have some kind of secret. Here's what I think Lucious' new big secret could possibly be.
Lucious Cut Jamal Out Of His Will
Lucious is currently suffering from ALS and was told he doesn't have long to live, so it would make sense that the media mogul would be aggressively editing his will. He also wasn't thrilled about Jamal coming out at the White Party. Could Jamal find out that Lucious cut him out of his will and thus Empire Entertainment out of anger?
Lucious Was Lying About Being Lola's Father
Lucious isn't always 100 percent truthful, so perhaps Jamal finds out that Lucious only said he was Lola's father because a gun was pointed at him. Or, even worse, Lucious is Lola's father, but Lucious makes Jamal claim Lola as his daughter
Lucious Pays Jamal's New Boyfriend To Flee The Country
Jamal recently hooked up with Ryan, the White Party's cute photographer who was unsure about their relationship if Lola was going to be in the picture. But now that Lola is (probably) Lucious' daughter and back with her mom, maybe Ryan and Jamal have reunited — and Lucious finds out. He's quite fond of opening up his check book and bribing his sons' lovers lately, so not much is stopping Lucious from sending Ryan halfway across the world.
Or does Empire have something completely different in mind? Whatever it is, it'll most likely leave us yearning for Season 2.
