6 Emotional Stages Of Waiting On President Trump

by Zoe Ferguson

It's the day we've all been waiting for — Democrats, Republicans, and everyone in between. Finally there is a 2016 presidential candidate we can all get behind, regardless of his political viewpoints, because no one is quite sure what he'd really be about as a politician. And we have no idea the actions he would take in office. But he, too, has only vague ideas of what he would do as President. Drumroll please — for the 2016 election, Donald Trump is launching a presidential exploratory committee!

That's right, Trump announced Wednesday that he is (again) going to try to run for President — at least, we think he is. The committee will help him raise money and decide whether or not to officially announce a bid for the Oval Office. Trump, who is a Republican, has also hired a number of staff from Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and New York, according to Politico. As we all know from House of Cards, those first three states host the first three contests in presidential nominations.

Trump has even made a statement about the move to create an exploratory committee:

I have a great love for our country, but it is a country that is in serious trouble. We have lost the respect of the entire world. Americans deserve better than what they get from their politicians – who are all talk and no action!

He talked about the experience that qualifies him for the job of President:

I have built a great company, created thousands of jobs and built a tremendous net worth with some of the finest and most prestigious assets in the world – and very little debt! All Americans deserve the same opportunity.

What problems will Trump address if he runs for President and wins? A whole number of them:

Our real unemployment rate is staggering while our manufacturing base is eroding on a daily basis. We must rebuild our infrastructure, control our borders, support local control of education, greatly strengthen our military, care for our veterans and put Americans back to work! We must stop other countries from totally taking advantage of our representatives who are being out-negotiated at every turn.

To put it in list form, everyone's favorite journalistic layout, here are the issues Trump just dropped on us:

  • unemployment
  • our eroding manufacturing base (what is that?)
  • government infrastructure that needs rebuilding
  • border control
  • locally controlled education
  • strengthening the military
  • taking care of veterans
  • unemployment again
  • and a vaguely threatening problem of being American representatives being "taken advantage of" by other countries, who are better negotiators than Americans are.

That's quite a laundry list. It doesn't quite narrow down what Trump's political priorities are.

It's time for Trump to make a decision once and for all about whether he wants to run for office. In 2012, he flirted with the idea, and in 2014, he considered running for governor of New York, but he never followed through on either plan. His moves so far this time around seem more concrete, but still not definitive. So are we going to see a Trump 2016 campaign or not?! We've thought long and hard about it, and here are the emotional stages of waiting (and waiting and waiting) for Donald Trump to announce his intention to run for President.

Impatience

So Donald Trump is considering running for President as a Republican. What else is new? Tell me something I don't know. This is getting old.

Anger

Why would Trump even want to run for President? What more does he want or need? As he said himself, he has already built up a "tremendous net worth" for himself as the owner of a giant private company.

Disbelief

He can't really be running for President — Trump has no real political experience.

Excitement

Maybe someone who has never experienced politics and government would be a good thing for the country. We can start over. Trump certainly seems excited, if all the exclamation points in his official statement are anything to go by. If he is not sure yet of his actions, he is certain about his convictions.

Doubt

Does Trump really think he can win the nomination? 74 percent of GOP primary voters say they cannot see themselves voting for him.

Curiosity

Let's just see what happens — after all, he does look kind of like Joe Biden in this picture.
