Louis Vuitton 2016 Resort Will Show In California

by Melanie Richtman

It seems as though fashion designers are starting to see the appeal of showing their collections in California. Not only is it sunny and warm, but it is also home to plenty of front row celebrities, making it the natural choice for a fashion show. Which is exactly why Nicolas Ghesquière chose Palm Springs for the Louis Vuitton 2016 Resort show on May 6.

Louis Vuitton isn’t the only luxury brand that has chosen California as a show location. Dior will be showing its resort collection in Los Angeles just three days after Louis Vuitton. Just last month, Tom Ford basically said “F you” to London Fashion Week and showed his fall/winter collection in Los Angeles in front of some of the hottest celebrities of the moment. Not to mention Saint Laurent’s Hedi Slimane doesn’t to live in Paris and rather resides on the West Coast. California is definitely having a moment.

Ghesquière seems to be getting into the habit of destination shows. Last year he showed his resort collection in Monaco. High-end designers seem to enjoy taking their resort shows to exotic locales, for example, Chanel’s 2016 Resort show will be held in Seoul. Only time will tell if Ghesquière and other designers will start bringing high-end fashion to California, or if it will just be the norm to show resort collections all over the world.
