One of the worst feelings you can have is buying a bottle of wine and taking it to a location you're unfamiliar with (like a party or a dinner), only to find that there's no bottle opener there and your bottle has a cork in it. (In the future, every bottle better be a screw top.) It's like Christmas Day and you can see all your presents but they're locked inside a glass bottle that you can't smash open because that would destroy all the presents in there. Don't despair: There are ways to open a wine bottle without a bottle opener. Most of them are pretty crazy, but are you going to sit there and pretend like you wouldn't go to any lengths to get your wine? I know you. I SEE YOU. You will get the wine. We will all get the wine.
Some of these methods require nothing more than a hammer and some resolve. Other methods are... well, you'll see. But when there's wine at stake, of course you have to be willing to go out of your comfort zone in seeking the opportunity to drink said wine. There's also the added bonus that all of these wine getting (because let's be real, it's less about opening the bottle and more about getting the wine) double as pretty unreal party tricks, so you'll not only get your friends drunk, you'll impress them with impressive skills. Here are 5 bottle opener-free ways to open a wine bottle:
1. With a bike pump
If you're in Brooklyn, you're probably in luck with this one (GEDDIT? IT'S A JOKE ABOUT GENTRIFICATION BECAUSE HIPSTERS LOVE THEIR BIKES AND THEY ALL HAVE ONE AND THEY SLEEP NEXT TO THEIR BIKE PUMPS.)
2. With a hammer and a screw
Hammer and screw are also horrible euphemisms for sex. So there you go.
3. With a hammer or saucepan as a budget saber
Because we can't all be as glamorous as Scott Disick.
4. With a blowtorch
Hang on while I just grab my blowtorch out of my handbag...
5. By tonging
I mean, if you have this kind of stuff just lying around, by all means, try it.
