Nasty Gal x Vans Collab Is Pure '90s Nostalgia

by Emily Kirkpatrick

I've come to trust e-retailer Nasty Gal as the purveyor of all things cool, quirky, and reminiscent of the finer points of my middle school fashion career (or at least what I choose to remember from that dark sartorial time in my life). So, of course, when Nasty Gal teams up with Vans on a collaboration it's all of my school girl dreams come true. The pairing seems like a natural fit considering both are cool-girl staples and the all-white slip-on and high top styles are a perfect fit for the summer months ahead. As Vans Head Designer of Women's Classic Footwear, Angie Dita, put it in a press release, "Vans and Nasty Gal both celebrate self-expression and offer product and a lifestyle inspired by fashion, music, art and street culture. A collaboration just made sense.”

The "Get Down" leather slip-ons come in pristine white with a muted pink sole and a raised textured upper that's supposedly inspired by the technicolor geometric prints of the 80s, but to me, is more reminiscent of a monochrome version of my favorite composition notebook. And at only $75, they're the ideal simple spring accessory that will also add a little pep to your step.

And if you think those are cool, just take a gander at the "Step Up" Sk8-Hi kicks which would look perfectly at home in Baby Spice's wardrobe. The classic cream colored leather high tops feature a trendy flatform with an all-over squiggly, graphic black and white print that has me feeling like I'm the most popular girl in my high school cafeteria.

Thanks to Nasty Gal and Vans we can all kick off summer in style in these nostalgia-laden sneaks!
