13 Things To Know About Dating A Hillary Supporter

by Kristine Fellizar

Unless you're stuck in no man's land with no bars, no service, and no access to any sort of wi-fi whatsoever, you should probably have heard by now, that yes, Hillary Clinton announced her bid for the 2016 Presidential race. Along with the bid comes hordes of Hillary Clinton supporters who believe that she will bring to the position something that’s never been brought before.

We know elections can be exhausting. But they totally are with all the he-said, she-said, back and forth between candidates, supporters, and political commentators alike. Every other trending topic has to do deal with whatever snide comment Candidate A said about Candidate B. Or what Candidate C said in 1969 when he was young, high, and backpacking in the Himalayas to avoid the draft. Don't even get me started on all the weekly recaps we're provided via Saturday Night Live. With a high profile candidate like Clinton, you bet it’s going to be a long, exciting ride.

If you happen to be dating one of those said people, or are looking to get into a relationship with one, here are a few things you may need to be aware of:

1. They have their own opinions and aren't afraid to speak their mind. Probably more so now than ever.

Because as Clinton put it, "Too many women in too many countries speak the same language — of silence."

2. They're not afraid to make the first move.

It's no secret that Clinton is the ultimate go-getter. Chances are, if you're dating a Clinton supporter, they are probably a go-getter, too. And we're not only talking politics.

In an interview with Barbara Walters, Clinton revealed that she was actually the one to approach Bill. "He was looking at me, and I was looking at him. And I finally thought this was ridiculous, because every time I saw him on campus I just couldn't take my eyes off of him, and he was always watching me. So I put my books down, I walked out, and I said, 'You know, if you're going to keep looking at me and I'm going to keep looking back, we should know each other. I'm Hillary Rodham.'"

3. They make their own money.

Like their idol, your Clinton supporter has their own dreams, her own passions, and her own life. After all, isn't that what you liked about them in the first place?

“I supposed I could have stayed home and baked cookies and had teas, but what I decided to do was fulfill my profession which I entered before my husband was in public life.” - Hillary Clinton

4. There is absolutely nothing wrong with pantsuits, so don't even.

6. If you royally mess up, they'll be forgiving forgiving. But just know, they are not afraid to keep your ass on the couch for a while.

Clinton once said: “You don’t walk away if you love someone — you help the person.”

7. While discussing Clinton, never use the words "polarizing," "calculating," "disingenuous," "insincere," "inevitable," "entitled," "over-confident," and "out of touch."

That’s coded sexism. That’s not cool.

8. Just like their idol, they knows how to make friends and influence people.

Don't be alarmed if you're suddenly agreeing with your partner on issues you used to argue about. Like Clinton, your supporter knows their stuff, sticks to her guns, and manages to make you see things their way.

9. In the same way, don't be alarmed if you're constantly hearing Clinton's 1997 Grammy Award Winning Album, "It Takes A Village."

Just let Clinton speak to you.

10. They know how to laugh at themselves.

Your Clinton supporter may be driven, may be ambitious, and may have all the qualities of a strong, independent person, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they take themselves too seriously. After all, Clinton doesn't.

11. They know failure. But they accept it and manages to see the positive side.

"Although we weren't able to shatter that highest, hardest glass ceiling this time, thanks to you, it's got about 18 million cracks in it...You can be proud that, from now on, it will be unremarkable for a woman to win primary state victories, unremarkable to have a woman in a close race to be our nominee, unremarkable to think that a woman can be the President of the United States. And that is truly remarkable." - Hillary Clinton

12. They know exactly who they are.

Your partner is not going to change for anyone. Their confidence, flaws and all, may be one of the traits you found appealing about them. As someone who's had her fair share of critics over the years, Clinton said, "There's a certain consistency to who I am and what I do, and I think people have finally said, 'Well, you know, I kinda get her now.'"

13. And last, but definitely not least, they know their priorities in life.

Despite having a stable career that she loves and is good at, she also knows to keep her work-life balance in check. Because as Clinton put it, "Don’t confuse having a career with having a life.”

That means there's definitely plenty of room for you there, too.
