7 Beauty Trends I Want to Try But Live In Fear Of

There are some things you know you will never try, but that doesn't mean you're not curious. And this definitely applies to unconventional beauty trends. I mean, we all have a Curious George, or Georgette, inside of us. We imagine what it'd be like to go sky diving, to scale a mountain, or to eat escargot. But in the end, a lot of us don't do the things that scare us or make us feel uncomfortable because being cushy and safe is easier.

If I know one thing about myself it's that when it comes to doing things that are outside of my comfort zone, I can be a little bit of a wimp. For me, my comfort zone consists of my brown hair, a dollop of tinted moisturizer, a bit of bronzer, and a few swipes of mascara.

I have always been someone who feels awkward trying seemingly crazy trends that are beauty related. When it comes to bolder fashion choices, I have tentatively dipped my navy-painted toes in the water and got them wet. But I don't see myself being ready to dive into daring hair and makeup looks anytime soon.

That doesn't mean that I don't love more audacious styles on other people, of course, but oftentimes they don't feel true to who I am. Trying to sport wackier beauty looks simply wouldn't feel authentic — even if I can appreciate them on others. So cheers to the girls and boys who rock bold hair and makeup trends that make them feel like dope divas. And cheers to me celebrating some of the looks in the hopes that one day, these seven wacky beauty looks won't be as intimidating:

1. Black Lipstick

Do I secretly feel like deep down inside me I am Nancy Downs from The Craft? Probably. Some days when I'm feeling all dark and twisted I want to hit CVS, get some black lipstick, and smear it on just for effect, but I never do. I can't tell you exactly why I don't. Maybe it's because I don't want people looking at me too hard or maybe I'm partly concerned that I may never be able to get it off.

2. A Pixie Cut

Do I think Michelle Williams, Anne Hathaway, and Emma Watson look impossibly cute and sexy with pixie cuts? Absolutely. But for me, it's as simple as this: My hair is my security blanket and I would feel completely lost without it. If I didn't feel my tresses on my shoulders, I would probably freak out. I admit that it is totally lame of me and that hair is just hair, but I told you I'm a wimp! If I chopped my locks and didn't have all my hair to hide behind when I'm feeling self conscious or awkward, I don't know what I would do.

3. Colored Eyeliner

This is a look I adore but cannot imagine myself "pulling off" in real life. The only time I can see myself rocking this look is possibly at Coachella, which I will most likely never attend. I barely wear regular eyeliner because I think it makes my eyes look smaller, so I'm not sure how a color pop would effect that.

4. Bleached Hair

Kimmy K. did it (as seen above). The Biebs did it. I can't do it. While I think this is an admirable look, I'm pretty sure it would destroy my hair, which is already prone to breakage. And after multiple testings with my picture on the Internet, the consensus is that I would look arguably horrifying with my hair blonde-as-can-be. So, I think I'll leave this look to the mega stars.

5. Highlighter

The reason this would not be a good look on me is because my skin already has a natural sheen to it since I use Aquaphor as my night cream (because my skin is super dry). I've touched on my skin condition in past articles. It's fun times.

6. Pastel Hair

I want to be Nicole Richie when I grow up, and everyone's favorite child star Hilary Duff has been donning the blue hue as of late, but I can't see myself taking the plunge. For similar reasons as to why I wouldn't bleach my hair. I just can't see myself straying from my natural hue, mainly because of the damage. Maybe I'll try a wig.

7. A Double Wing

The double cat eye was recently worn by beauties Georgia May Jagger and Karlie Kloss at Thierry Mugler F/W 2015. This statement eye looks epically cool on them but I think it's just a tad too cool for me. There, I said it. I barely wear regular eyeliner as it is because I just don't love the way it looks on me. The only time I think I might legitimately wear this look is if I was outfitted in all black for a secret mission to catch a cheating boyfriend or something along those lines.

So there you have it. Whilst I live in fear of "just going for it" with these select few trends, perhaps writing them all out was the challenge I needed to give 'em all a go. Sometimes we have to confront our fears to tackle them head-on, right? I think that's what "they" say.
